The High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia that since the moon of Ramadān was not sighted this evening, in Saudi Arabia, we shall be completing thirty 30 days of Sha'bān 1429 A.H., in accordance with the Hadīth of the Messenger of Allāh Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam :

Wednesday 7 January 2008 we usher in The new Hijrah year marking the 1429th anniversary of the migration of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam from Makkah to Al Madīnah Munawwarah and the beginning of the Hijr calendar.

Subsequently, 1 Dhul-Hijjah will be today, Monday 10 December 2007, and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in 'Arafah on Tuesday 18 December (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1428), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating 'Id Al Adha on Wednesday 19 December, (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1428), Insha Allāh.

It is forbidden to use Ayāt's of the Qur'ān Al Kareem as mobile telephone ringtones," the council said in a fatwa. The fatwa was endorsed during the council's 19th session at the holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia, which was attended by 70 scholars. They contended that such use impinges on the sacred character of Al Qur'ān Al Kareem.

"Any such use would damage the Qur'ān Al Kareem by their abrupt interruption of the Ayāt's or by sounding in inappropriate places."
